Top signs to look out for indicating that your loved one needs more help - Live-in Care

Today there are almost 11 million people in the Uk aged 65 and over, which is 19% of the population. In 10 years time will increase to almost 13 million people, 22% of the population. As the UK ages at an alarming rate the need for professional live-in care for older people is so important.

Are you wondering whether your loved one needs live-in care? Here we will go through some signs that indicate you need more help.

Personal Hygiene

Most of the time the appearance of your loved ones tends to be a major indicator. If you have noticed a change in their appearance in recent visits as a result of poor hygiene, Unpleasant body odour, unwashed teeth, dirty, unkempt hair and unclean clothes. Neglecting personal hygiene can be a sign of both serious physical and mental trouble.

Housekeeping

If your loved one is keeping an untidy and messy home then it could be a sign of limitations or disease of the body and mind. Keeping a clean and tidy home helps keep a clear and stress free mind. You don’t want your loved one to be living with dirty dishes, an empty fridge, expired food or unopened mail. These are the signs to look out for.

Health Issues

If your ageing loved one suffers from a chronic condition or faces new disabilities they may require support. This can be especially true among people suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s as those living independently can pose a threat to their health and life.

Mental Health

The last sign to be aware of is mental health, withdrawal, a negative attitude of the world, depression or trouble sleeping. These conditions indicate that your loved one is not fully coping and suffering from loneliness. Our mental health is so important and should be taken as seriously as our health.

If you are noticing some of these signs then it is time to start looking at your options. Home care or live-in care is something to consider. Live-in care is a perfect option as it offers support in daily household chores whilst also getting companionship, reassurance and medical assistance. Specifically, if your loved one is suffering from dementia or Alzhiemer’s disease then they are at a high risk of loneliness and just need that reassurance which a Live-in carer would provide.

Live-in care is the gentlest and most practical way of providing your loved one with high quality care and is a great alternative to nursing homes which cause seniors huge stress and confusion. Live-in does not create a shock environment and loss of independence which you would get when moving into a nursing home.
