Dementia is not only about memory loss. It can also affect the way you speak, think, feel and behave. People living with dementia need the help of their family, friends and carers to help guide them.
It is important to stay patient with someone with Dementia as it can be terribly frustrating to be misunderstood or to be seen as incompetent. Their ability to present rational ideas and to reason clearly will change.
Try and not let the person suffering from Dementia feel silly, it can leave them feeling frustrated and lonely. When hearing a story or information for the second or third time try responding as if it is the first time hearing. We know this can be difficult but it allows your loved one to feel understood.
