Loneliness in elderly people is a serious problem amongst our population. It impacts the elderly both mentally and physically. We as a company have witnessed the positive impact in which having regular social interaction has on our loved ones.
We as human beings are social by nature so it is important that, no matter the age, we maintain a social interaction with people. Unfortunately as we get older and lives get busier the more likely our elderly spend time alone. We spend a lot of our years surrounded by group of peers, during full time education and then later in our careers or bringing up families.
As we age and retire from working life and our children grow up and start leading their own lives we start to loose contact with colleagues and friends. For a lot of people old age can be associated with a diminishing social life and fewer people close to us. But this doesn’t have to be the way. Instead it brings a different chapter of social life. There are many senior clubs in communities around the UK and especially in Essex.

Loneliness is not simply about being alone. Some people are perfectly happy living and spending time alone but its about how breaking up our days and bringing light back into our lives. There has been studies and investigations over the years into loneliness and its impact on our mental and physical health.
- Lonely elderly people show high levels of functional decline
- Lonely people are 50% more likely to die than those who are not lonely, compared to nearly 30% of obese people in comparison to non obese people
- Lonely people are more likely to suffer from depression, heart conditions, diabetes and high blood pressure
- Loneliness causes a decrease in the effectiveness of a person’s immune system
